1. What is Hi Messenger?

Hi Messenger is an operation center within the HiSupplier.com website that provides general instant communication functions. With HiSupplier.com, you can:

Communicate with buyers and suppliers in real time.

Search for buyers and suppliers on HiSupplier.com.

Manage My Account.

2. Download and Install

1) Download

Hi Messenger software is free to download. If you have any problems using Hi Messenger, please first ensure you are using the most recent version of the software.

To download Hi Messenger, simply click the button “Download Now”. Then click "Run" to begin the installation process, or save the installation file to your computer. Be sure to remember where you saved the file.

2) Install

In order to use Hi Messenger software, your computer must meet the following minimum system requirements:

Windows 98(2nd version), 2000 or XP

Browser: IE 5.5 or above

300 MHz processor

64 MB RAM

50 MB free disk space on your hard drive

Internet Connection (dial-up minimum 33.6 kbp/s modem or any broadband, cable or DSL.)

Once the file is completely downloaded, please open the folder containing the file you downloaded.

Double click the installation file you just downloaded to start installing Hi Messenger on your computer.

Click "Accept" only after you read and agree to the terms, and then follow the installation instructions to complete the installation.

If you wish, you can allow Hi Messenger to start automatically each time you start windows. So does when you sign in to HiSupplier.com site. With Hi Messenger always running, other users will be more likely to find you online. You can change these settings at any time in the HiSupplier program by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Preferences."

 

3. Start Hi Messenger for the First Time

1) Get a HiSupplier.com Member ID

The first time you start Hi Messenger, you will be asked to enter a HiSupplier.com Member ID and password.

If you are not a HiSupplier.com member, please register by clicking "Get a free ID" on the Hi Messenger Sign In page, or by logging on http://www.hisupplier.com and click "Join Now" on the top right of the page.

2) Add Suppliers and Buyers to Contact List

First, Start Hi Messenger and then:

① Log in with your ID and password. (This happens automatically by default if you have used the "Save my password" function, or if you have already entered an ID and password.)

② When you start Hi Messenger for the first time, your Contact List will be empty. To find buyers and suppliers to add to your Contact List, select the Contacts menu, click "Search HiSupplier.com," enter a product/company name in the search box, and press the Search button. A new search result window will open. Click the product/trade lead/company you are interested in, and you will find a Hi Messenger icon indicating if the buyer or supplier is online. If the buyer or supplier has not installed TradeManager, you will see the message "Not Installed" instead of the icon.

③ To add a buyer or supplier to your Contact List, simply click the Hi Messenger icon on the Product/Trade Leads/Company page.

4. Managing Contacts

1) Contacts

Users who you have added to your Contact list are considered "Contacts." In the
File->Preferences->Contact Approval menu you can choose to accept incoming messages only from Contacts.

If you want to add a contact, simply click "Add a Contact" from the Contacts menu and enter the contact's Member ID.

To delete a contact, select the contact and right click. Then click "Delete Contact from Group."

To permanently delete the contact, click "Delete Contact from Contact List."

To move a contact to another group, select the contact, click "Move to Group" and then, from the drop-down menu, specify the group to which you want to move this contact. To copy a contact to another group, click "Copy to Group" and perform the same action.

2) Authorized Users

When another user wants to add you to his/her Contact List, you will get an authorization request pop-up dialog box. If you accept the request, the user is authorized. If you decline the request, the user will not be authorized. There is also an Ignore button on the dialog box. If you ignore the request, any further messages from this person will not reach you.

3) Ignore List

If you block a user, he/she will no longer be able to communicate with you (and vice versa). You will always appear offline to the users you have blocked. You can edit the list of blocked users under the File->Preferences->Ignore List. As another option, you can block somebody in a dialog by clicking the Ignore button or, choose the contact and click menu Contacts ->Manage Contacts -> Ignore Contacts.

4) Create, Rename and Delete Groups

To manage your groups, simply choose one of the following options from the right-click menu: Delete Group, Create New Group, Rename Group.

Note: you are required to remove all contacts in a group before deleting a group.

5. Online Status

Online status is shown on the status bar of HiSupplier (located at the top of the Hi Messenger window). You can change your online status by clicking on the status icon or by selecting your status from the File menu.

Your online status can be any of the following:

  • Available - this is the default status when you are logged in.
  • Busy
  • Not at My Desk
  • On the Phone
  • Out to Lunch
  • Be Right Back
  • Idle - this status is activated if you are logged in, but have not used your computer for a short period of time.
  • Invisible to All - when using this status, you can use Hi Messenger but others will see you as offline.
  • Offline - this means the user is not currently logged in to Hi Messenger, or has chosen to appear as invisible or offline.

For other status representations, you can customize new status messages in the menu File ->Preferences -> Status.

6. Uninstall Hi Messenger
To uninstall Hi Messenger, open your control panel (Start->Control Panel, or Start->Settings->Control Panel) and choose "Add/Remove Programs." Select HiSupplier from the list and click "Remove."
