PET Recycling
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a form of polyester and plastic resin. It is a polymer that is formed by the combination of two monomers: modified ethylene glycol and purified terephthalic acid.
PET is a plastic that is labelled with the #1 code on or near the bottom of bottles and containers, and is a commonly used plastic in the packaging of water, soft drinks, juices, salad dressings and oil, cosmetics, and household cleaners. Its strength, transparency and thermo-stability make PET a popular packaging option for food and non-food products. PET is inexpensive, resealable, lightweight, shatter-resistant and recyclable. PET recycling is used to manufacture a wide variety of new products, including fibre for polyester carpets. In addition to this, PET recycling is used to make clothing and footwear, industrial strapping, car parts such as bumpers, grills and door panels, and fibrefill for sleeping bags.
