Self regulating heating cables have a specific maximum exposure temperature based on the type of polymer used to produce the heating matrix. If the cable is exposed to excessive process temperature, the matrix is damaged resulting in loss of heating power. This problem typically occurs when process pipes fitted with low temperature heat tracing cable are being steam purged.
