If you use bamboo skewers for marinating and grilling meat, you most likely will not be able to reuse them. When you grill the meat, the skewers get char marks from the flames. With repeated use, they may fall apart or even catch on fire from the heat of the grill. To cut down on the risk of fire, soak bamboo skewers in water or another liquid for 30 minutes before cooking. If you find your skewers received no char, you can reuse them a second time; however, this is not likely.Other Uses
If you use bamboo skewers to serve hors d'oeuvres or other dishes, the skewers may be cleaned to remove germs and then reused. Use bamboo skewers to substitute as fondue forks at a fondue party, or use them to skewer cheese cubes, slices of cut fruit or other small items. In these applications, the skewers receive minimal wear and tear and can easily be cleaned and reused.
