Kacip fatimah (Labisia pumila) is the female version of Tongkat Ali. Kacip Fatimah is a small woody and leafy plant that grows and can be found widely in the shade of forest floors. The leaves are about 20 centimetres long, and they are traditionally used as a kind of tea by women who experience a loss of libido. Despite its long history of traditional use, the active components and mode of action have not been well studied, though some preliminary research has been published.

Kacip Fatimah is traditionally used to maintain a healthy female reproductive system, to help tone, tighten and lubricate the vagina, and to enhance sexual desire and function. Many generations of Southeast Asian women have relied on Kacip Fatimah for promoting feminine vitality, sexual well-being and hormonal balance. It is widely used in childbirth there to ease delivery and as a post partum medication. The extract also helps to firm the abdominal muscles, to prevent flatulence, and to alleviate pms and menopausal symptoms. These actions are due to the prescence of phytoestrogens that are naturally found in the plant. Although little research has been conducted on Kacip Fatimah, two studies have shown that the plant exhibits oestrogenic properties. Mamal et al. in 1992 showed that alcohol/water extracts of Kacip Fatimah exhibited a weak but targeted estrogenic effect on human cells, resulting in an enhanced secretion of alkaline phosphatase. Husniza et al. in 2000 showed that Kacip Fatimah was able to displace estradiol binding, making it similar to other estrogens such as estrone and estradiol.
