General Description
This kit includes a trunk release solenoid, solenoid brackets, hardware and wiring for adding an electrically controlled trunk release to your vehicle. A pushbutton switch and switch mounting bracket can be conveniently mounted to a dashboard or glove compartment for trunk release control from the front of the vehicle.
Alarm Compatibility
The solenoid cannot be directly controlled with a remote output from an alarm system, because the remote outputs of alarms cannot provide enough current. You must use a relay (item 120E5000) to trigger the solenoid with an alarm output. The trigger wire of this kit may be connected to the relay output, and the relay may be triggered by the alarm's remote output. If a relay is not used, the remote output of the alarm will be damaged.
Installation
Installation: The solenoid must be bolted to the underside of the trunk lid. A 15" steel cable connected to the solenoid is used to pull the trunk latch, so the solenoid must be mounted within 15" of the trunk latch. A trigger wire (included) must be connected between the solenoid and the pushbutton switch; in most cases, this will entail routing the wire from the trunk to the dash or glove compartment.
