Many types of emulsion products are used in our daily lives. Mayonnaise, latex paint, and ice cream are some of the more common emulsions, in each case; certain mechanical and chemical processes are involved to combine two or more materials that will not mix under normal conditions. An entire scientific field is devoted to the study of emulsification. Just as an understanding of how an engine works is not necessary to operate an automobile, neither dose one have to understand complex emulsion chemistry to successfully use a bitumen emulsion. The key is to select the right emulsion for the materials and application.
