Gabion Walls are generally analyzed as gravity retaining walls,that is, walls which use their own weight to resist the lateralearth pressures. The use of horizontal layers of welded wiremesh (Anchor Mesh) as horizontal tie-backs for soil reinforcement (MSE Walls) is discussed separately. This material is presented for the use of a qualified engineer familiar with traditional procedures for retaining wall design.
