Twin screw extrusion was pioneered by SAIXIN in breakfast cereals in the early 1995's and it is now recognized as a very versatile and economic process for direct expanded breakfast cereals
Direct expanded breakfast cereals cover a large variety of recipes and shapes:
- Yellow or white corn, wheat, rice, wheat barley, oat flour or grits or multigrain
- 3D shapes (animals) and typical shapes as Balls, Stars, Cups, Loops, Hoops, Animals,
Bran Sticks, Balls Conglomerate.

- Flavours and colours (Chocolate, honey, fruits...) are also generally included in the recipe.
