Gabions
Gabions are free-draining walls constructed by filling large baskets with broken stone. The baskets are made from galvanised steel mesh, woven strips, or plastic mesh.
The permeability and flexibility of gabions make them suitable where the retained material is likely to be saturated and where the bearing quality of the soil is poor. Wire mesh gabions have two forms, baskets which are used for walls and mattresses which are used for revetments and river linings.

Enviromesh Woven Mesh Gabions and Mattresses
The mesh fabric for all these products is formed by weaving adjacent strands of wire by twisting them through one and a half turns at intervals, forming a hexagonal shaped mesh. The ends of the mesh wires are wrapped around a heavier transverse edge wire to form the panels. The tensile strength of the mesh in the direction of the weave is greater than across the weave

Welded Mesh Gabions
Weld Mesh Gabions and mattresses complement our range of Woven Mesh Gabions and mattresses to provide a valid and effective technical solution in the design, construction and maintenance of a variety of stone filled protective structures. They can provide effective, economical and environmentally acceptable solutions to a range of civil engineering problems.

Weld Mesh Gabions are considered to be more aesthetically pleasing and they are also much quicker and cheaper to install than Woven Mesh Gabions.

Triple twist hexagonal mesh stone filled gabion baskets have been used successfully in construction work. They are sometimes commonly called stone filled cages. The triple twist weaving of the gabion mesh prevents unravelling. Woven mesh gabion baskets and mattresses are made of this mesh fabric. Woven mesh gabion baskets and mattresses are available with plain heavily galvanised wire or PVC coated galvanised wire for maximum design life. PVC coated gabions have a design life of up to 120 years depending on exposure conditions. The standard colour of the PVC coating is grey with other colours available to special order.

All stone filled woven mesh gabion baskets are a valid and effective technical solution in the design, construction and maintenance of a variety of protective flexible structures. Woven mesh being extremely tough and flexible makes this the ideal solution when the going gets rough.

Woven Mesh Gabion baskets are considered to be more robust and durable than their welded mesh counterparts.
