Description
Oxytetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, withbacteriostatic action against a large number of Gram-positive and Gram-negativeorganisms (like Streptococci, Staphylococci, Pasteurella spp., Brucella spp.,Corynebacteria spp., Erysipelothrix, Coliforms, Salmonella), Rickettsiae,Mycoplasmas, Chlamydia and some protozoa. Activity against Pseudomonas, Proteus-and Klebsiella spp. is low. Applied parenterally, oxytetracycline quicklypenetrates the blood and tissues. The advanced effect of this preparation is theextremely long therapeutic effect. Oxytetracycline acts synergistic withpolymyxin.
Indications
This product is effective against infections caused bymicro-organisms susceptible to oxytetracycline, like infections of therespiratory tract (pneumonia, bronchopneumonia), infections of the urinarytract, (endo)metritis, mastitis, foot rot and Bedsoniasis in sheep. Dysentery,shipping fever, gastro-enteritis, Mycoplasmosis, (endo)metritis, mastitis,Salmonellosis and liver abscesses in cattle, pigs, sheep and goats.Contra-indications
Do not administer to animals hypersensitive totetracyclines, with serious kidney and/or liver disturbances. Do not administerto horses, dogs and cats. Do not administer to ewes producing milk for humanconsumption.Side-effects
Hypersensitivity reactions, irritation at injectionsite.Incompatibility with other drugs or substances
Oxytetracycline isincompatible with preparations containing polyvalent cat-ions (Ca++, Mg++,Fe++), because of their known interference with tetracyclines. Do not combinewith penicillins or cephalosporins.Dosage and administration
For deep intramuscular injection. Cattle,pigs, sheep and goats: 1 ml per 10 kg bodyweight (20 mg per kg bodyweight).
A single dose is recommended, due to its long action of at least 3 days.
No more than 20 ml in cattle, 10 ml in pigs or 5 ml in sheep and goatsshould be injected into a single site.
In piglets weighing less than 10 kg a1 ml dose should be used.
Withdrawal period
Meat : 28 days Milk : 7 days
Storage
Store in a dry, dark place between 15°C and 25°C. Keepmedicine away from children.
