Identify House Bugs: The Indian Meal Moth
You may see this little beastie buzzing through the air in your house, especially near the kitchen. It is a bona fide pest -- but the moth itself never eats anything. It is the caterpillar that you might never see that does the damage. What until you need the corn meal or flour from the pantry -- dump some out, and you may find webby clumps with little yellow caterpillars in them. This is the lair of the Indian Meal Moth caterpillar! These larvae have evolved quickly to feed on a relatively new food source, processed grain, and have adapted to coexist with humans in a way few animals have. You'll need to throw the infested grain away, and keep your stores airtight, but that is all you need to do to control this insect.
