A mandrel in the safety joint is held inoperative by a tension sleeve to help prevent premature releasing of the joint. Torelease the safety joint in an emergency, the tension sleeve must be parted before the joint can be operated. When thetension sleeve has been parted by pulling on the tubing, the safety joint may be completely release by holding right handtorque on the tubing while working it up and down. 4 1/2"-5", 5 1/2” RTTS safety joint can unhitch upon two rotations of thetubing. One revolution needs two strokes. 7″RTTS Safety Joint require two strokes and 9 5/8” need three. It is about twelve revolutions for complete release of the 7” and 9 5/8” RTTS safety joint.
