When the optical measurement system send a certain frequency light waves from the front end of fiber to the end of fiberthe FBG reflect the wavelength (1650nm ± 5nm) waves, if the optical measurement system detects this wavelength, it is proved that the optical line is normal, no fiber damage and breakage, and other communication wavelength which are not inherent FBG reflection wavelength, will pass normally, does not affect normal communications.

Fiber bragg grating reflector can be easily placed in series in the user end. The optical measuring system is connected to the front end of optical splitter, when detecting the presence of the center wavelength, it means optical fiber connection is normal, if the center wavelength does not exist or reflection values decrease, indicating that the fiber damage or breakage, require maintenance.
Currently in FTTH project, SC-type and TF attenuator reflector are widely used, SC-type structure require on-site connections on one side, TF attenuator type can be plugged directly on both sides.
