The classification of the auto transmission
There are three kinds of common models about the auto transmission: AT, CVT and AMT. Now AT is used widely, which is as pronoun on the auto transmission. Here let us introduce AT first.
Automatic and manual is the basic operating principle of the auto transmission.
Automatic is not as manual, no clutch.
Automatic do not need to shift the gear, just stay at DRIVE D.
Auto transmission(add to TORQUE CONVERTER,WET CLUTCH) and manual transmission(add to clutch) are in the different ways but the same effect.
The place of auto transmission and manual transmission is same in car,the role of the auto transmission is converting the output of the engine out of the great speed range to the diving wheel.
The big different between auto transmission and manual transmission is, the manual transmission is in the different diameter of gear locked up to the output shaft to change gear ratio,but the auto transmission is use the same set of gear arrangement to produce different gear ratio. That kind gear is called planet gear.
One transmission is made up of two planet gears, which is as a whole.
Every part could changes input, output or stop. So different whole could get different the ratio of the planet gear.
So a group of the planet gear don't need to get together with other planet gears, just leave away and will output the different ratio of the planet gear.
The basic operating principle of TORQUE CONVERTERS (WET CLUTCH).
If you have read the above discuss of the manual transmission, you would know that Engine through the clutch and the manual transmission connection. If no clutch, you want to stop the car and you must stop the engine first. But the car with auto transmission is no clutch, which just use the torque converters.
Now let us see why auto transmissions need the torque converters? What is the basic operating principle of torque converter and its merits and shortcomings.
As same as the auto transmission, the car of auto transmission also needs to make engine turn when the wheels and transmission are at rest. But manual transmission use the cultch to off the engine and transmission. So auto transmission use the torque converter.
Torque converter is between the engine and transmission.
Torque converter is a kind of FLUID COUPLING,make the engine and transmission rotate all alone. If the car is waiting for the red light and the engine is idling, at that time the speed of engine is slow, which torque force of input torque converter is small. So as long as light brakes can make cars remain static.
You could try it,if you left foot to step on the accelerator,your right foot on heavier brake to make cars remain static.Because of the more oil you give, the engine speed rise, the more liquid pumped in torque converter, This output more torque to the wheels.
