Common wire nails are used for general construction purposes. The nails have a thick head so that they can be driven into hard objects and materials. They come in various lengths and sizes, starting from 2d going up till 60d. Normally, because they are common nails, they are not made of stainless steel because stainless steel nails are more expensive than standard iron nails. Since common nails are made of iron, they should be kept in an anti-rust atmosphere.
