How the Mosquito Magnet® works?
Mosquitoes will typically begin to appear in your yard and start to breed around foilage and water supplies when the temperature reaches and remain above 50°F for an extend period of time.
Mosquuito and other biting insects use the long-range attractant carbon dioxide(CO2) to locate people. Once in close proximity, mosquitoes use short-range scents emitted from the skin, to determine which person they are going to bite. The Mosquito Magnet mimics a human by converting propane to CO2 with its patented catalytic conversion technology, in combination with a short-range scent.
Attracted by the CO2 and short-range scents, mosquitoes and other biting insects are drawn to the Mosquito Magnet. When they reach the trap, the insects are vacuumed into a bug bag by our patented Counterflow Technology™, where they dehydrate and die within 24 hours.

For the best results, use the following guidelines for proper placement.
Determine where mosquitoes are breeding
The Mosquito Magnet® must be located between the breeding areas(standing water, bushes) and the people areas(patio, deck) in order to capture mosquitoes at their source, before they get to you.
Place the trap away from people areas
Place the trap as close to the breeding area and as far away from the activity as possible. Typically, 30-40 feet is far enough from human activity.
Place the trap upwind from the breeding area
Mosquitoes fly upwind looking for a meal. After a female mosquito bites a human, its weight is doubled and the mosquito will float back downwind to the resting area.
Place trap in an open area
CO2 is heavy than air, therefore it stays close to the ground. The mosquitoes will follow the CO2 plume to the trap. If it's placed in high grass, the flow of the plume will be impeded and the mosquitoes won't find it.
Place the trap in the shade
Mosquitoes don't like the heat of the direct sun. As the sun sets, mosquitoes come out of their resting places.
Mosquito attractants

Using an attractant is critical to the performance of your Mosquito Magnet®. Once mosquitoes sense the carbon dioxide from the Mosquito Magnet®, they need secondary mosquito attractants, Octenol, R-Octenol or Lurex3™, to hone in on the trap.
Lurex3TM Mosquito Attractant
What is it?
Lurex3™ is a patent-pending mosquito attractant that mimics naturally occurring human skin scents or odors known to attract mosquitoes.
This EPA-registered product is the only attractant developed for the Asian Tiger Mosquito. It has been designed for use with all Mosquito Magnet® Traps.

Why should I use it along with the Mosquito Magnet® trap?
By adding the attractant Lurex3™ to mosquito traps, you can increase your catch rates by up to 10 times! Mosquitoes are not only a nuisance; they may transmit mosquito borne diseases that are a serious health threat to people and pets. The Lurex attractant, known as Lurex3™, will lure biting insects to the Mosquito Magnet® trap and away from you and your family.
What does it attract?
Lurex3™ attracts mosquitoes, particularly the Asian Tiger Mosquito, a day biter, and other species that may transmit mosquito-borne diseases such as West Nile Virus, Encephalitis and Heartworm.
Our studies have shown that Lurex3™ out catches octenol by 3:1 on the Asian Tiger Mosquito.
The insects are attracted by the carbon dioxide and the Lurex3™ and are drawn to the Mosquito Magnet® trap where they are captured, then dehydrate and die.
How often should the cartridge be replaced?
The Lurex3™ cartridge should be replaced every 21 days. After 21 days of use, the cartridge appears the same; however, it will no longer be effective since the Lurex3™ mosquito attractant will have been released.
The catch rate will be reduced if the attractant is not changed!
Quick clear cartridge
Don't let dirt, dust or contaminates clog your Mosquito Magnet® fuel line - If this happens, it will prevent your trap from working properly!
The Mosquito Magnet® QuickClear Cartridge should be used after every tank change for optimal trap performance. Without this proprietary feature, the nozzle might be prone to clog due to contaminants in the propane. It is also recommended for use before seasonal storage to avoid build up of contaminants during the off-season.
Mosquito nets
When it comes to controlling mosquitoes, nets are a critical tool to have in your arsenal. After the attractant lures the mosquitoes into the trap, the mosquito net finishes the job by capturing the pests and holding them while they dehydrate and die. That's why it is very important to start each season with a new Mosquito Magnet® Net and replace as needed for optimum trap performance. It is also important to perform periodic mosquito net inspections throughout the season, as nets can become clogged with dead insects or suffer damage.
Clogged, damaged or torn nets reduce the vacuum and force your trap to work harder than necessary to attract mosquitoes.
Regularly replacing your Mosquito Magnet® trap's net not only assures the trap will operate at peak efficiency, it also extends the life of the trap itself. Make your mosquito trap investment last by performing proper and timely net maintenance.

Independent testing
Independent tests have proven that our mosquito traps work. In fact, the Mosquito Magnet® is more effective and captures more types of biting insects and mosquitoes than any other mosquito capture trap on the market.
Following is a summary of the studies.
Hawaii
Five commercially available mosquito capture traps were compared. The Mosquito Magnet® with Lurex3™ as the secondary attractant, performed significantly better than all other traps tested for collecting total Culicidae. All Mosquito Magnet® products utilizing Lurex3™ collected significantly more Aedes albopictus than the competitor trap using octenol.

21 Mosquito Magnet® traps were placed along the nature trail in an effort to reduce mosquito populations. The mosquito capture traps had a very significant impact on the mosquito populations on Atsena Otie.
Maintenance
21 day maintenance cycle
-Refill propane tank. 20 lb(9.07kg) propane tank lasts approximately 21 days with 24-hours/7-days operation.
-Replace Lurex3 cartridge.
-Empty or replace bug bag.
-Utilize the Quick clear adapter at every tank change.
Periodically wipr down the outside of the trap with a clean, water damp cloth.
Replace your 4'C' Batteries every season.
