Common use
The wire specifications used in the automotive wiring harness are those with labeled sectional area 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 4.0 and 6.0 (in Japanese automobiles, the labeled sectional areas are 0.5, 0.85, 1.25,2.0, 2.5, 4.0, 6.0 square millimeters, etc. Each of them has a value that allows the load current, matching for conductors for different power electrical equipment.
Take the wiring harness of automobile for example, 0.5 specifications are applicable to instrument lamp, pilot lamp, door lamp and top light, etc.;
0.75 specifications are applicable to license plate lights, before and after lights, stop lamps, etc.; 1.0 specifications are applicable for turn lights and fog lights, etc.; 1.5 specifications are applicable for fore-headlight and horn, etc.;
main power lines, such as generator armature wire, earth wire, etc.,
require wires with specifications from 2.5 to 4. These are just for normal automobiles, it's maximum current value of load that matters, such as the earth wire and positive power wire of storage battery should be used solely for specific car wires with large wire diameter, which is at least above ten square millimeters, these "giant" wire will not be incorporated into the main wiring harness.
