Other common names for the tree include Brindall berry, Malabar tamarind, Uppagi, and Gamboge. The fruit contains hydroxycitric acid (HCA), which makes up the bulk of the extract. Garcinia cambogia is a small, sweet, purple fruit also known to some as Malabar tamarind.
