2. Introduction to cutter suction type mud dredger
The cutter suction type sand dredger's is equipped with a cutting mechanism at the inlet of the suction pipe, of which the function is to cut and loosen the hard mud at the riverbed. Then the mud is sucked up by a wear-resistant centrifugal pump and discharged through a pipe line either onshore or to a barge. Cutter suction type dredgers are most often used in geological areas containing hard surface materials (for example gravel deposits or surface bedrock) , where a standard suction dredger would be ineffective. In recent years, dredgers with more powerful cutters have been manufactured to excavate harder rock without blasting.
