Introduction
In early 1980's, a grooved barrel sleeve (about 5D) with connected to a smooth barrel (about 25D) is being used in extrusion equipment. They were designed to achieve a higher flow volume with the same diameter of the screw. This kind of screws are mostly used for Polyolefine (PE and PP) as well as for soft material (soft PVC, TPE). The grooves can be straight (in the axis of the machine), spiral or generally helical.
